CHARLES E. DANIEL CENTER
study abroad / 4 months / spring 2012
Since its purchase in 1973 by Dr. Harlan E. McClure, the Daniel Center in Genova, Italy has hosted Clemson architecture students every semester. Commonly referred to as “the villa,” it became home to me and 19 other students for four months.
As part of the program, three separate weeks of the sixteen week semester were allotted for travel. The first and last weeks the class traveled as a group visiting southern and northern Italy and southern France. The middle week was designated as independent travel allowing students to plan their own trips.
Weekly day trips to northern Italian cities for field studies class and extended weekends contributed to travel opportunities as well. Over the course of the semester, I visited eight countries and over 30 cities.
