ASHER GATES MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART

design implementation II / year 3 / fall 2010

PROCESS

Originally developed as a set of construction documents for a design implementation class, this project was further explored in terms of design principles and functions.

A site survey, proposed building footprints, and design program were initially provided. The site was designed to accommodate a contemporary art gallery, café, event space, and sculpture garden taking into account vehicular and pedestrian accessibility.

DESIGN + FUNCTIONALITY

The landscape itself becomes interlaced with contemporary art exhibits through its varying forms of vegetation. A wide variety of vegetation produces numerous environments for species while shifting the user experience of space. It’s a project that seeks to explore where site users, aesthetics, and ecology meet.
